The project consisted of using a projector along with the application, MadMapper. Our assignment was to cast found images and videos to create a collage on an animate object. For my project, I chose to use some paper lanterns that I have had hanging in my room. These lanterns have nature designs such as bamboo stalks and small flower designs. The theme I wanted to communicate was Space and nature. Earth connects these two things. The main images I used were Earth projected at the center blue lantern, and nature-esc designs on the other two lanterns. Later on in the sequence, the planet shifts to a character from the game Final Fantasy VII, who has a strong connection to the planet is very nature inspired. Her video shows her connection through flowers and how urbanization can and will offset it. The piece is meant to be an appreciation for nature and our planet.
Overall, I've decently satisfied with how this project turned out. One of my biggest struggles was getting the projection to map correctly because some of the images would shift as the lanterns moved. The other struggle was getting the lanterns to hang evenly. The strings had snapped a few times and it was very had to measure how even to make the Command strip hooks. I also wanted to include more images so that the transitions would be more frequent, but the ideas was that the image would change over time and urge you to come back to view it. I took inspiration from the Digital Art Museum in Japan for this.
When I was discussing the piece with my parents, I had the idea of having all three of them hanging in a vertical row instead, which would've made it easier to set up.
