This is a follow up on my last blog post. As the last blog discussed how big companies are using AI to make full advisements of their products instead of putting faith into their creation and marketing abilities, now one of the biggest media franchises, Disney wants to fully embrace AI to create animations. I had originally found out about this on Twitter/X and decided to go to OpenAI's actual article to fully understand it.
Disney has become "the first major content licensing partner" using Sora, which is known for its AI video generation. This deal will allow OpenAI to fully access many of Disney's franchises such as Marvel, Star Wars, etc. With this access, fans are able to free "create" AI generated content of these characters without the risk of copyright strikes, which to my knowledge was not possible before. The employees at Disney will also have full access to the newest versions of ChatGPT which will be strongly encouraged for work purposes. The total for this investment is $1 billion.
I already stated my statement on AI generated content and how it should be a tool for ideas and creative processes, but never for fully project creation. I can see Disney doing this because they want to get fans involved and "create" something for their favorite franchises but to me they aren't creating anything, only telling AI to mimic what has already been made and take credit for it. With the holiday season, there are more AI generated commercials that are coming out, but something that lightened my mood was a new fully animated French commercial that advertised a supermarket. The commercial has a natural passion feel that AI still can't create. The "AI bros" want to fully overtake human creativity with AI for reasons I truly cannot understand, and as for now I will continue to support mostly and all human- made art creations.
