Artist Statement

My first ideas that I had for this project didn't stick around. I overwhelmed myself with trying to create a low poly character and found that this was better suited for after this project, once I get more experience with Blender.

These two filters that I created are inspired by one of my favorite videogame character right now, so I heavily referenced him in the the Sunny Apples filter, which depicts his mascot. The second filter is more vague, taking a paper airplane which is one of his symbols and making something that can be used by people who aren't familiar with the game.

Blender took some getting used to, and I found that things became instantly easier when I memorized the hotkeys and shortcuts.

The tutorial I used for my independent study gave very detailed steps and hotkeys that were being used. I watched several tutorials for different methods to create the filters that I had in mind. The Paper plane Friend filter mostly referenced the Build a Bird Lab, as I used bones to make the plane slightly move its wings, but I had to watch a tutorial for it to follow a flight path. For both of the filters, I applied particle systems which is basically bundles of objects that are emitted.

Some struggles I had been mainly involving the particle systems because it was something that we didn't learn in class. Effect House was a little difficult to use mostly because I could only access it on the school computers and had my filters declined due to "technical difficulties" and "Hateful/Harmful Behavior" (?), which didn't make much sense to me because they passed the different model tests I ran. I guess this is why we shouldn't hire AI emplyees lmao.

I really enjoyed this project, and I will definitely be returning to Blender and possibly Effect House as well.

[Edit] I renamed the Sunny Apples filter to specifically say that it's referencing the game that it's from (Love and Deepspace), but the original name, Sunny Apple(s), is literally the name of the mascot so yeah idk...I'm happy it finally worked tho
